our activities
As from the very inception of the Boi-Mela Committee, beside organizing Book-Fair, our goal was to uplift the financial condition and morale of local people as well, we have taken up a number of projects with admission to reach out to more people. Some of our notable initiatives are….

Vidyasagar Smriti Pathagar
A library was established to commemorate the Bicentenary Birth Anniversary of Pandit Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar with anaim of generating interest in reading books. Patronage and constant moral and financial support of number of well-wishers have made this possible. Usually, we observe important occasions like Birth Anniversaries of Vidyasagar, Rabindranath Tagore, Independence Day, International Language Day (“Vasha-Dibas”) etc. here through a sublime-sincere function. We try to get local people involved in these observances. Poor and needy students of the locality are also given books through the library.

Cultural Competitions
Every year we arrange various cultural competitions. Many students from surrounding schools heartily take part in Sit & Draw, Recitation, Singing, Dance Performances, Creative Writing Contests (in the forms of Poems, Short Stories and Essays), and Quiz Contests. This year, a separate contest was arranged on Recitation of poems written in Santali language.

Celebration of Culture
During Book-Fair, various Cultural Programmes are organized in the evening of each and every day. Students of different schools, cultural organizations and eminent personalities take part in the seminars and functions. Programmes and seminars of diverse themes and topics enrich the ambience of the fair.

Publishing Houses
Renowned Publishing Houses like Ananda, National Book Trust of India, Sahitya Academy, Shishu Sahitya Samsad, Dey’s, Patra-Bharati, Parul Prakashani, Nirmal and others come here with the treasure trove of their book-titles. A separate pavilion is set up to showcase books exclusively written by authors hailing from Jhargram district. Authors, using Santali as their medium of writing, are also encouraged to participate here. Literary enthusiasts who publish Little-Magazines are also Heartily welcome din this particular “Jhargram-Pavilion”. Every year many poets and authors also choose the Book-Fair center stage to unveil the covers of their newly published books.

Sahitya Sabha
Every year “SahityaSabha”—a meeting of local poets and authors along with readers—is organized here. This bring sample scope of healthy exchange of creative pursuits of many people.

Souvenir Publication
We publish our own Souvenir every year. This book contains articles written by eminent writers with topics ranging from fictional writings to essays on various lesser-known aspects of Jhargram district and its people.

Philanthropic Activities
Apart from organizing Book-Fairs, we are also involved in social works. Be it during pandemic, natural calamities or adverse weather conditions, Jhargram Boi-Mela Committee has always joined hands in serving the society. We collect used garments, spare medicines, textbooks and other imperishable essential commodities throughout the year so that we can distribute them to the distressed as soon as the situation arises.

blood donation camps
Organizing Voluntary Blood Donation Camp is now one of our regular agenda. Jhargram has a Super-Specialty Hospital cum Medical College, but scarcity of blood is a burning problem. Regularly organizing these Blood-Donation Camps are indeed our humble initiative to contribute to solve the problem.
