ABOUT US
In 2014, some enthusiasts of Jhargram District formed an organization named “Jhargram Boimela Committee.” Among them, there were authors, avid readers, publishers, members of cultural organizations, teachers, and well-wishers belonging to different age groups. The first meeting was held on 25th January, 2014 at Sunny Point School, and the first President was Subhrangshu Mallick, a renowned teacher. Under the guidance of Sri Nabhendu Hota, a veteran social activist, the members decided that henceforth, they would organize “Jhargram Book Fair” every year. The organization would remain non-political, and the Fair would be organized with the financial support of the well-wishers only. Thus, the journey began in 2014. The first bookfair started on 4th April, 2014 and ended on 14th April, 2014. The fair was inaugurated by Badal Basu, a thespian in the world of publishing. The theme song was composed by well-known poet Suvo Dasgupta. In 2020, this fair could not be arranged because of the pandemic. But until 2023, nine fairs could be organized. In the meantime, the organization got registered and assumed its present name “Raghunathpur Boimela Association” (Registration No.: S00087) under West Bengal Act XXVI of 1961. The organization comprises 295 life members and a number of financial support members.
